Yes but you can't do a damn thing with a mac besides web surf, listen to music, and watch movies. Maybe some graphic design but the one button mouse thing pissed me off and I hate the dumbed down nature of the mac OS, which is not to say windows isn't slowly doing the same thing but you can change the settings for more advanced usage.

The problem with linux: Not enough software! Yeah, there's "free" and "open source", excellent, i support that highly... but you end up saying: "this isn't photoshop" (gimp) "this isn't after effects" "this isn't ableton" "this isn't logic"

Okay, today i bench marked a quadcore pc against my macbook pro (only core duo, 2gb ram) on a HDTV output for one of my videos - pretty intensive consider everything is hand-drawn, loads of layers, scans, effects and stuff (i needed this done by today for a film festival)... guess what render quicker.... the macbook! The windows computer is still rendering. Fucking vista (vista 64 bit aswell - this computer has 8gig of ram under it's bonnet). So, windows, fuck off. The system simply isn't efficient enough. Go and fucking play computer games and be "over clocked" and be like "wow, useless 3d graphics"... unproductive shit.

oh well if that's the case that is pathetic. But I must point out that the majority of people do not use their computers for video rendering. That said I don't like Microsoft at all either but I like their (XP) interface way more than mac. I would like to know the stats of the pc vs the powerbook you used also the price difference between them. I built a computer almost 2 years ago for 1000$ that is still faster than the powerbook my sister bought for 2300 five months ago.

my macbook kicks the crap out of most of my classmates' notebooks that are newer. that is, speed-wise it does. (i am assuming you are speaking of a desktop.)
